我が青春のREBEL MUSIC
LATE 80’S – 90’SのPSYCHOBILLY、SKA/ROCKSTEADY、PUNK/HARDCORE界隈の話にはいつも暴力がつきまとった。
当時多感な高校生だった私はとにかくその危険な匂いを発散させる音楽に魅了され、世界中にいるこれらのジャンルのレコードを可能な限り買い集めた。
ここではあえて触れないが、これらのジャンルを求めてクラブに行けば、血なまぐさい現場は数知れないほどあった。当時全盛を極めたチーマー文化とも微妙にクロスオーバーしていて、遊びに行くのにも気合が必要だった。
また、ファッション面でも当時これらのジャンルに関連のある東京のお店、《VIOLENT GRIND》《下北沢アパートメントストア》《東京堂》《DEAD END》《A STORE ROBOT》《DOUBLE DECKER》《666》《READY STEADY GO!》《GOLD AND MONEY》《CASABLANCA》《BLUE BOY》《CREAM SODA》《ペパーミント 原宿》《CHOPPER》など個性的なお店が多く、私も当時いくつかのお店で調子に乗ってシメられているチーマーを目撃したものです。
そんな甘酸っぱい青春のBGMだったいくつかのアルバムを紹介します（Mr.REBEL “E.YAZAWA”、CAROL/COOLSなどJAPANESE REBEL MUSICも紹介したかったのですが、オンラインショップになかったので今回は洋モノONLYで）。

Rebel music playing memories of my youth
In the late 80’s and 90’s, violence was always related among those who loved psychobilly, ska/rocksteady and punk/hardcore. As a high school student at the time, I was fascinated by the dangerous atmosphere of such music and bought as many records of these genres from all over the world as I could. I dare not write about it here, but if you went to a club to listen to these music genres, there were countless bloody scenes. Such music had a subtle crossover with the outlaw culture that was at its height at the time, and it took a lot of energy to go out and play.
Also in terms of fashion, there were many unique stores in Tokyo related to these genres at that time, such as Violent Grind, Shimokita Apartment Store, Tokyo Do, Dead End, A Store Robot, Double Dekker, 666, Ready Steedy Go, Gold and Money, Casablanca, Blue Boy, Cream Soda, Peppermint Harajuku and Chopper. I would sometimes see outlaws almost fighting with each other in those stores at that time.
Here are some albums that were the background music of my bittersweet youth. I wanted to introduce Japanese rebel music such as COOLS as well as CAROL, the band Eikichi YAZAWA was a member of. However, I could not find those LPs in our onlineshop at the moment, so I will recommend only Western music. RAMONES
「ROCKET TO RUSSIA」
「ギターソロなんて要らん」と既成概念をぶっ壊し、後のSEX PISTOLSをはじめとするUK PUNXにも多大なる影響を与えた「ROCKAWAY BEACH」「SHEENA IS A PUNK ROCKER」収録の永遠のマスターピース。自分も中学生時代にクラブチッタで体験しましたが、MCなど一切なく繰り出される楽曲の嵐に完全にノックアウトされました。
The band broke the stereotype that guitar solos were unnecessary, and had a tremendous influence on Sex Pistols and other UK PUNX bands. This is an everlasting masterpiece that includes “Rockaway Beach” and “Sheena Is A Punk Rocker”.
VARIOUS
「NU YORICA! (CULTURE CLASH IN NEW YORK CITY: EXPERIMENTS IN LATIN MUSIC 1970-77)」
チーマー全盛期だった90’S当時、地元横浜には少なからずローライダーに乗ったチカーノさながらの集団がいて、真夜中の山下公園周辺は毎週末お祭り騒ぎの様相を呈していた。私もSOUL/REGGAEからルーツをめぐる感じでLATIN SOUL/BOOGALOOにもハマっていった。本場のローライダー/チカーノは日々の敵対するギャングとの抗争が激しすぎてせめて車の中では極甘のSWEET SOULを聴き癒されたいという気持ちになると聞いたことがあり妙に納得した。JOE BATAAN/TITO PUENTE/RAY BARRETTO/JOE CUBA/TIERRAなど必聴盤はいくつもあるが、ここではREGGAEフリークにもお馴染み《SOUL JAZZ》からの編集盤を。
I’ve heard that local low riders/chicano were in a fierce war with rival gangs, so they wanted to be healed by listening to sweet soul music in the car. There are a number of must-have records like Joe Bataan, Tito Puente, Ray Barretto, Joe Cuba and Tierra. But this is a nice compilation from soul jazz which is familiar to reggae lovers.
THE POGUES
「IF I SHOULD FALL FROM GRACE WITH GOD」
ファンジンを制作したりとLONDONのパンクシーンで有名だったイギリス生まれのアイルランド人ボーカリスト、シェイン・マガウアンを中心にロンドンで結成されたPOGUESのこのアルバムは、TOM WAITSのフェイバリットアルバムで、当時出演していた映画関係者に発売したばかりのこのアルバムを配り歩いたほど。〈PUNK MEETS IRISH TRAD〉な唯一無二のその音楽性はたくさんのフォロワーを生んだ。「堕ちた天使」をはじめ、名曲ぞろいの傑作。
This is an album by Pogues, formed in London around Shayne McGowan, a British-born Irish vocalist who was well known in the London punk scene for producing fanzines. Their unique “punk meets Irish traditional” style of music has created a large number of followers.
BATMOBILE
「BATMOBILE」
80年代PSYCHOBILLY初期から活動したトリオ編成のオランダのロッテルダム出身BATMOBILEのこのファーストはサイコビリーの醍醐味であるスピード感とWRECKIN’せずにはいられない暴力性を秘めた楽曲がたまらないPSYCHOBILLY大名盤。
1st album by Batmobile, a trio from Rotterdam, Holland, active since the early days of psychobilly in the 80s.
THE SKATALITES
「SKA AUTHENTIC」
今でもSKATALITESの楽曲を聴くとその内なる暴力性を秘めた楽曲に踊りだしたくなる。アルファボーイズスクール出身のJAZZやR&Bに憧れたどうしようもない不良達の更生という意味もあったであろうそこで培った音楽の技術は、結果的に世界中に多大なる影響を与えることとなった。SKATALITESはアルバムに限らず、多数のシングルもすべて最高です。
Even now, when I listen to The Skatalites’ music, I feel like dancing to their songs with their inner violence. The musical skills they developed at Alpha Boys School ultimately had a profound impact throughout the world.
THE BEATLES
「PLEASE PLEASE ME」
そこに収められたR&B/SOUL/MOTOWN/ROCKABILLYなど様々なジャンルの楽曲のルーツをめぐることで、色々なジャンルが好きになっていくという、音楽の教科書のような1枚。革新的なコード展開/ハーモニーの楽曲とハンブルグ時代の不良性を併せ持つBEATLESは間違いなく60年代当時のPUNKかつ第一級のREBEL MUSIC。
The Beatles, with their innovative chord development and harmony songs and Hamburg-era badness, they were definitely the punk and first-class rebel music of the 60s.
THE CLASH
「SANDINISTA!」
THE CLASHの音楽性はBEATLES同様、ROCKABILLY/SKA/REGGAE/DUB/R&R/R&B/SOUL/DISCO/HIP HOPとその雑多なジャンルの楽曲を掘り下げることで他ジャンルを聴くきっかけになった人は枚挙にいとまがない。この3枚組アルバムは、その今でも眩いばかりの光を放つ楽曲群に心をわしづかみにされる大名盤。
The Clash’s musicality, like that of The Beatles, has inspired countless people to listen to other genres by delving into the music of rockabilly, ska, reggae, dub, R&R, R&B, soul, disco, hip hop, etc. This 3LP album is a classic.
BOB MARLEY & THE WAILERS
「EXODUS」
BOB MARLEYとは不思議なもので、BOBをとっかかりとしてCALYPSO/SKA/ROCKSTEADY/ROOTS/DUB/DANCEHALLとそのJAMAICAN MISICの奥深い泥沼のような世界にはまり色々なアーティストを聴いていても、最後にはまたBOBに戻っていく。そういう人が多いのもまたこの人の魅力なのだろう。ということで日替わりで心のベスト10 第一位(Ⓡスチャ)は変わっていくのですが、今回は「NATURAL MYSTIC」「JAMMING」「WAITING IN VAIN」など宝石のような名曲が詰まったこのアルバムで！
Everyone who has heard Bob Marley’s music and been addicted to the bottomless world of Jamaican music, listening to a variety of artists, but in the end they keep coming back to him. Bob Marley is such a fascinating and mysterious musician.
MANO NEGRA
「PUTA’S FEVER」
THE CLASHの遺伝子を感じずにはいられないPUNK/REGGAE/LATIN/ROCKABILLY等のゴッタ煮サウンドのこのアルバムはCLASHなき90年代に衝撃を与えた。後にソロとなるMANU CHAOのJOE STRUMMERを彷彿とさせるカリスマ性を持ったパーソナリティーと音楽は母国のフランス語/スペイン語/英語で歌われ、英語圏を超え世界中で大ヒットするのだが、このバンド時代から基本的には何も変わっていないことに驚かされる。一緒に廻った全米ツアーでDE LA SOULが大嫌いになったらしいが、何があったのか今でも非常に気になっている。
With a sound that is a mixture of punk/reggae/latin/rockabilly that inherits the genes of The Clash, this album made an impact in the 90s. Manu Chao’s charismatic personality and music are surprising in that basically nothing has changed since the days of this band.
